ADVERTISSEMENTS
Remember Battle Bots? Or...any of the robot-battling competitions that were in vogue about a decade ago? Well,
Hebocon's kinda like that, except for people who have no idea how to build robots...and the robots they DO build are just absolutely terrible in every way. Basically, it's the best thing ever.
Hebocon is a robot sumo-wrestling tournament for those who don't have the technical skills to actually make robots. 31 pseudo-robots that don't even move properly came together to go head to head. The robots in this tournament are nothing like what their builders initially imagined them to be, robots are forgotten on the train, the strategies made with careful planning only result in failure, and the entrants who enter the ring brag about their robot's secret moves that don't really exist. This is the heated battle between crappy, but lovable robots. And to ensure that all the robots are awful, there's a "high tech penalty" - which punishes entrants who build their robot competently and with high-end features.
But there's more - so much more. Here were 10 insane highlights of the video:
1. This would be more fun to watch than any sport currently airing on TV.
2. This looks like a terrible nightmare come to life - AND I LOVE IT.
"One entrant left her robot on the train. She gave up looking for the robot and then sent us a picture of her having a beer."
4. "Strategy only works when it is accompanied by the technology it requires..."
5. I'm guessing this was invented by Japan's equivalent of David Lynch?
6. The Tale of Tsukuru
Meet Tsukuru - a young Hebocon contestant.
He brought with him the Tsukubot 3 - an adorable and wonderfully crappy robot.
Unfortunately, Tsukubot 3 had to face off against Ku-Chan Zero...
The match started out with Ku-Chan Zero the heavy favorite, because...c'mon. Rapid-fire punches!
The crowd was disheartened quickly by Zu-Chan Zero's dominance over the scrappy little Tsukubot 3.
But then...
TSUKUBOT 3 WINS!
And Tsukuru got to turn in the best homework assignment ever. Nicely done, Tsukuru.
7. And let us not forget dildo-bot.
8. "CARRY ON MY WILL!"
9. And the "Lowest Tech Robot" winner went to...
10. Hebocon - where the winner is the biggest loser around.
